What does a session look like?

Somatic Psychotherapy is a body-oriented counseling approach that respects the importance of the body as a psychological resource and tool. This counseling method is designed to make therapy more effective, functional and actionable.

Sessions primarily involve dialogue and can include various techniques, such as muscle and connective tissue release, gentle muscle activation exercises, stretches, and body awareness activities.

Each session lasts one hour and can be offered as a full Somatic Psychotherapy session or as a split appointment—30 minutes Somatic Psychotherapy followed by 30 minutes of Massage Therapy. The receipts for a split appointment will reflect the back-to-back 30-minute appointments, each clearly designated.

Split appointments are ideal for clients seeking relief from the physical symptoms that are often associated with stress and distress. Examples include headaches, muscle or body pain, jaw tension, and changes in vision. Internal symptoms—such as digestive upset or heart-related sensations—can also be connected to stress and emotional distress. These symptoms can sometimes be described as emotional pain, or psychosomatic, and they are approached with respect and understanding.
